Cabling of MAGIC I telescope
Special assembling of multimode optical fibers for the transmission of analog data from the detector of the telescope to the evaluation unit, which could not be directly attached on the telescope because of weight reasons.
The signals to be detected have a half width of 2-3 NS and can be recorded through 1000 individual detectors.

Differences of the signal propagation delay
The customers requirement was to achieve a difference in the propagation delays of less than 1 ns of all fibers, in order to clearly assign an event to a detector. To achieve this goal Sachsenkabel assembled 1440 individual fibers with a length tolerance of ± 0.06%.
Protection and cable laying tube with screw connection
The permanent installation of the cable in an outdoor area with extreme climatic conditions prevailing at the site necessitated the development of an appropriate protection and cable laying tube with screw connection.

Conversion of media broadcast van
The previous used connector technology, based on ferrules, constantly led to problems when used in the harsh environment of media broadcast applications.
The approach of Sachsenkabel included an exchange of the connection technology to Eurolens connectors and bulkheads. The beam expansion of the Eurolens system ensures toleration of dirt and vibrations.
Special challenges during the conversion
Field assembly in an extremely short time
Media broadcast vans are constantly in use. To keep the downtime to a minimum, the conversion has been performed in a very narrow time window. Due to the intense preparation and know-how of our experts, the time frame could be accurately maintained.
Unknown cable material
The cable material, used in the van, was unknown until the time of conversion. In examining it, we came to the result that the used material is not optimal for the Eurolens connector. However, through the years of experience this problem could be solved in the short term.

Emergency function
In case of failure of the systems, the underwater robot can be withdrawn with the fiber optic cable. To achieve this result, the cable and the connector were designed for very high tensile strength.
Continuous communication throughout the whole diving process
To realize a continuous communication a special rotary transmitter was integrated into the cable drum.
Detachable plug connection
One of the main customer requirements was the realization of a plug-in connection at the diving robot. This offers the advantage of an unproblematic repair of the diving robot in case of any defect of the cable by external mechanical influences.

Transfer box for media broadcast applications
Data transfer by copper-based cables is limited by a significant length restriction. Mainly in case of an increased data transfer rate (e.g HD content) this can lead to massive problems.
Especially at live events, data must be transmitted in a flexible way over long distances. To ensure such a reliable data transfer, Sachsenkabel developed an appropriate transfer box in collaboration with b.media GmbH.
Special challenges
Robust delivery box
The media converters available on the market are very different. For this reason, each box is equipped with an adapter plate with a hole matrix, to meet the different requirements of the constructions. Furthermore the box is equipped with various attachment points and G-hooks / ring terminals to fastening the box on trusses.
Fiber optic connection
A small patch panel inside the box connects the media converter with LC or SC connectors. The external connection is provided by a robust Eurolens connector, which works by expanded beam technology.
